Supporting Students at TIET

Starting university is an important transition for every student. For students with disabilities, planning ahead can help ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place when they arrive at TIET.

The Disability Resource Centre welcomes parents and families who would like to understand the support available to students with disabilities.

How can families help?

  • Encourage students to communicate their support needs.
  • Help students plan for the transition to university.
  • Encourage students to connect with the Disability Resource Centre early.
  • Support students in understanding and advocating for their own needs.
  • Encourage timely disclosure of any accessibility requirements.

An important part of the process

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for identifying their needs and communicating with the DRC. Families can support this process while allowing students to develop independence and self-advocacy.
